NewsX, the English news channel will soon be renamed and relaunched. The channel was founded by former Star India CEO, Peter Mukerjea and bought over by Nai Dunia owner Vijay Chajlani and Jahangir Pocha within a year of its launch. The channel has hired McCann Ericsson for the exercise. Although the budget for the initiative is yet to be finalised, it would be more than Rs15 crore. The news channel plans to use emerging media platforms like online presence including social networking sites and mobile platform heavily to extend reach and gain viewer feed back.

Aircel launches services in Pune
Telecom operator Aircel on Monday announced the launch of its GSM mobile services in Pune. All local calls will be charged Re.1 at the first minute, the second minute at 50 paise and from the third minute onwards, 30 paise will be charged. The company would offer an in-built tariff for lifetime on STD calls wherein the first minute would be charged at Re 1 and the second minute onwards at 75 paise.
Mobile Numbers to begin with '8' now
The department of telecommunications(DOT) has exhausted cell phone numbers beginning with 9 in India. Soon, mobile phone companies are expected to issue cell phone numbers beginning with 8.Moreover, the 95 sub-level of telephone numbers, earlier reserved for trunk calls or STD dialling within a telecom circle, has now begun to be alloted to cellular operators.
TRAI issues regulations on Mobile Number Portability
The TRAI issued draft Regulations to facilitate Mobile Number Portability (MNP) implementation in the country.The draft regulations lay down the business process for implementing mobile number portability. They cover the following important points:
- Subscriber’s eligibility conditions for porting.
- Rights obligations and duties of service providers
- Rights, obligations and duties of Donor operator, where the subscriber exists before porting
- Rights, obligations and duties of recipient operator, where the subscriber moves after porting
Rights, obligations and duties of Mobile Number Portability Service Provider (MNPSP), who facilitates the mobile number portability through its clearing house and Number portability Database centre.
Porting Process guidelines which describe the entire porting process right from the time subscriber requests for porting his mobile number till the porting takes place.

RCom ties up with BBC for Radio service
Reliance Communications and BBC World Service on Friday announced a strategic alliance to offer live audio service through Reliance Mobile’s R-World value-added service platform. The new partnership will see BBC World Service content available live across India through the medium of mobile phones. Reliance subscribers will now be able to listen to BBC World Service news in a choice of five different languages. Reliance subscribers can access the BBC World Service Radio by dialling 51234378.
RCom to provide 35 streaming channels to GSM users
Reliance Communications (RCom) has partnered with Hyderabad-based Apalya Technologies to roll out 35 new live streaming channels for its GSM (global system for mobile) subscribers. Rcom will be using Apalya's Mimobi technology platform to provide its mobile services on its GSM network.The services will be branded as MimobiTV.
TATA DOCOMO launches GSM services
Tata Docomo, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices has announced commercial launch of its operations in Orissa. With this launch, the subscribers will now be able to enjoy the benefits of 'pay as you use'. The company also announced the introduction of the 'pay as you use' advantage for many of its value added services, including all its voice portals, 24-hour music, cricket commentary and voice chat.
